In the past forty eight hours we have been a busy little family. Jeff called me on Thursday morning at work and left a message with Jessi that he wasn't feeling well and he didn't want to get the WaddiBear sick. Jessi ran to the house and picked up Addison and brought her back to the office. So Addison get to spend a half a day at work with Mom and Aunt Jessi. After that the three of us ran some errands. By the time I got home at 3:15 Jeff was looking much worse than he had in the morning. We called the doctor and they recommended going to the Urgent Care Center. So Addy was right back in her carseat and got to play with Nana and Papa while Mom and Dad went to the Urgent Care Center. It only took us twenty five minutes to get in and out of there...as they sent us directly to the emergency room with a diagnosis of "acute appendicitis".
After being the only ones sitting in the ER waiting room for about fifty minutes and as Jeff's pain was increasing I asked the triage nurse if there was any place that he could lay down. "No." No? No?!?! In my calmest possible voice I let this woman know that if we had to sit there for much longer someone was going to need to find a bed. And that if that meant I had to steal it from another unit I would. We were quickly seen after this.
Six hours later I was seeing Jeff off to surgery. I think that the concept of "emergency surgery" should not include a time table of six plus hours. Wow. Jeff got out of surgery a little before midnight. I stayed in the hospital with him...and thank heavens the nurses on his floor were nothing like the triage nurse. A note to all men who have stayed in the hospital with their wives after they have given birth. The roll away beds that go in the rooms are much more comfortable than those on the post-partum units.
Addison stayed with Nana and Papa and spent the night there...we all came home late yesterday evening. Jeff's not moving around very quick and is taking some time off work...Addison and I have decided that we are going to give Dad adequate time to rest...and we are heading to the pool with Jessi and Doodleman (aka: the biter). We will explain that in our next post...
