Today I am thankful for an opportunity for new friends. This evening I saw some neighbor kids climbing up on a parking structure in a way that was very unsafe. Quickly getting annoyed with the neighbor kids, as I usually do, I stuck my head out the front door and yelled at them. They told me that they were just trying to get their ball down. I suggested they get an adult to help them, and then figured, what the heck, and just did it myself. This involved three adults actually and moving a vehicle. Addison came outside to see what was going on and in the process she "made a new friend." Mind you, we haven't let her play much with the kids in the neighborhood because they aren't ever supervised. She did make friends with the little girl and invited her over for our campfire. The little girl came over - and it was so incredible to see Addison make a new social connection. She offered her friend a beverage, s'mores, and they played. When the little girl had to go home because it was getting dark Addison said her farewell and indicated she hoped they could play again. It was all so stinking cute and I am so thankful that my daughter is brave enough to reach out and make friends with kids who are over two years older than her.
Dear God, thank you for presenting Addison with an opportunity and then guiding her through it. Thank you for giving her the braveness and tenacity to break into a new role and make herself vulnerable. In you name- Amen.
