The Week I Wish to Never Repeat

I am going to share a story with you - one that does not yet have an end...but has slowed down enough for me to stop and gather my thoughts.

Last Sunday after church I was sitting at the dining room table and Jeff was taking Addison up for her nap. As I heard him walking down the stairs I could also hear water in the kitchen. I was able to tell that it was not to supposed to be...neither of us were in there! When we went in to investigate we discovered water cascading from the bulkhead ceiling down the cabinet, into the microwave and onto the stove. The water was coming from the bathroom right above the kitchen. We called the plumber - who was able to get it to stop and then let us know that we should cut all the drywall out of the bulkhead so when he came by on Monday to finish the repair he wouldn't have to do that. So - my dad did that for us. And I called the insurance company and made our claim. Then the next morning I went to work - the plumber came and Jeff paid the man. The insurance company sent out a brigade of Water Restoration Specialists. My house was torn apart....they were making sure they were getting all the water out - to avoid any mold. However, they were checking the basement and then all of a sudden there was water coming down over the washing machine....there's a bathroom right above. Same issue. At this point - we have huge dehumidifers and drying fans on all three floors, we were not sure what was wrong with the bathroom on the main floor....and because essentially it was toilet water that landed on our appliances and they were destroyed we had no way to cook.

At this point the insurance company put us in a hotel. I shouldn't even say hotel. It was an apartment. That is where we lived for five days. It was manageable. On Tuesday the plumber was back to fix the next bathroom. On Wednesday the water guys pulled all the flooring out of the upstairs bathroom and we could see into the kitchen. Literally. We were able to move back into our own home on Friday....On Friday night we went and ordered new appliances. And then I went to put Addison in the bathtub....

....when Jeff walked in the house she was in the tub...and water was dripping into the kithchen. No joke. The plumber is coming back tomorrow. We have met with the contractor's re: the rebuild and they will be able to hopefully start within the next week and a half.

We just keep trying to find the positives. At least now our appliances match. At least we have an additional insurance plan that covers our deductible. At least we hadn't put our new microwave up before the tub was leaking into the kitchen. At least we have had the support of everyone in our lives.

We were all set to go to church this morning - I know I was ready for some rejuvenation....and then we walked into Addy's room. Apparently, at some point during the night she had gotten sick....so we stayed home and rested. All day. We needed it!

To be continued....

Oh, boy do I hear ya with the house problems....Ours are always a little too minor to make an insurance claim, but big enough to give us (and our checkbook!) all sorts of grief (over and over and over).
Good luck with everything - I'm so glad you have the professionals doing it all and the insurance company paying for it!
