On the Road

again...today to celebrate my mom's birthday we went to the East side of the state to visit with her all her siblings and a couple of my cousins. One of my cousins is only a year and a half older than Addy so we had a picnic at the park and then went to Maybury Farm.

Let me back up....I should probably explain why there are no pictures of Addy in this post. Because I would feel like a terrible parent since her face looks like she's been severely neglected. She decided to jump off the deck yesterday and scratched up the side of her face really good....Then today while we were at the park she got it good again. The park we went to was really neat - an all wood playground - I love it! Well - I have been trying to balance how much freedom to give Addy at the playground - because she thinks she is Ms. Independent and Mommy should leave her alone - and I don't yet....especially since she thinks she is skilled enough to go down the fireman's pole. So, today I let her go further than I normally would (this playground had no fireman poles). This other little girl decided to pick Addy up - she might have been three. This made me nervous so I climbed up the steps to go intervene - and the girl dropped Addy. On her face. I get it, things happen. However, the grandma who was with the little girl pissed me off. As Addison was screaming and a HUGE goose egg was forming in the middle of her forehead the old lady did not ask if she was okay, did not apologize, did not say a word to her granddaughter (I shouldnt have been surprised...the same grandma let the kid climb UP the slide...which is a topic for a whole other post!). I just said to the little girl, "maybe we should keep our hands to ourselves." For those of you that know me well - no I did not say it in a nasty manner - no I did not beat up the kid (I wanted to say something to the grandma!).

Overall, my kid is tough. Heck, she has an Uncle Drew to make her that way - she has a mom who doesn't give up....and she certainly has an independent streak. I can't tell you how it felt to not be able to fix her...I wanted to cry as much as her!

Other than that we had a great day! Jeff and I have spent the last three hours doing laundry, cleaning up the fridge, organizing toys/sippy cups/food/dog stuff/etc, Jeff getting a haircut, packing and getting ready to go on vacation. Tomorrow we leave for Nashville, TN for a long weekend. We are going to see some Eklove family friends and to see JASON AND MICHELLE STEFFENHAGEN (Allen) who I don't think we have seen since 2004! We can't wait!
